I seem to collect papers, cards and things of interest and recently came across an article on Dr. Ling. He was a well know surgeon at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. He and his family lived on Fiske Hill in Sturbridge, and I recall a story about Dr. Ling that occurred when we first met after he moved to the area.
In getting to know Dr. Ling (early 1960's?), I asked him where he came from and he said "Peking, China". Growing up, my family had a close friend we called Aunt Mollie.
Aunt Molly - 1947
She was sent to Dr. Ling's hometown (Peking) by the Rockefeller
Foundation in the 1940's. I knew that she had taught physiotherapy there,
and so I mentioned my Aunt Mollie. He looked startled and said, "You don't
mean Miss MacMillan, do you?" I said, "Yes - what a small world", for she
taught him physiotherapy there! That was something we had in common.
In April of 1974, he diagnosed me as having breast cancer.
He gave me a radical mastectomy and I have been free of cancer ever since.
I am forever greatful to him!

A reader recently sent this Campden Maine tribute
to Marge Jones. He pointed out another Southbridge -China connection.
Her father and brother were from Southbridge
and they were both killed at Pearl Harbor
