I forwarded a letter to you, Dick. I failed to include some additional
information. I am the grand daughter of Philias Francois Duquette, owner
of Phil's Auto during the 1930's and 1940's. He was located at 327 Hamilton
Street in Southbridge. My family lived in Southbridge and Sturbridge for
at least one hundred years. I still have friends & family there. The
Latailles from Sturbridge (Uncle Danny who also had an auto body shop in
Sturbridge until his retirement), My brother, Phillip and his family from
Wales, various cousins and great aunts and uncles from the Duquette side.
The Cliffords from my mother's side. Sister Richard Agnes who was a Sister
of St. Joseph and the principal at St. Louis Catholic School. Uncle John
Clifford who lives on Worcester Street with my Mother (my father passed
in 1998 in Ga.) I could go on and on but I won't. Just some historical
background. Take care. Thanks for the memories. Anna Richardson

the Rez, the people I grew up with and went to school with. Some of the

Great site. I heard you on the radio last week, just before a segment

I may have solved a family mystery. I have often been told of the 3-day
disappearance of my grandparents in "the STURBRIDGE flood" of the early
1950's. I was never able to find info on a Sturbridge flood, but I now
believe we had the wrong town.

I enjoyed visiting this website. It was really nice to
stroll through Southbridge History. I especially enjoyed the picture of
Main street in 1974, since this was when I moved here and I remember the
way it looked. I used to go to the five and dime and Centre Pharmacy alot
as a kid. I remember riding my bike down Main Street in the summertime.
The horn from the fire station used to signal to us where the fires were
and also when there was no school in the winter! Thank you for preserving
Southbridge History. Great job1

Excellent website. I have been visiting Southbridge since
a few years ago and I was wondering if there was any institution offering
any historical information about it, today I found your website by accident
and I'm glad to find people like you to share my point of view respect
to the future of Southbridge. I think this place have the potential to
become one of the best cities to visit in Massachusetts: Small hotels,
good restaurants, Art galleries, Integrated shoping centers, etc. The Vienna
Restaurant and the Flat Iron Building are just two good examples about
what could be waiting around the corner for Southbridge. I hope I will
meet you just to share a few ideas about the past and the future of Southbridge.

Southbridge web site is very well done. certainly shows
lots of work and dedication. Lots of it brought back some really good memories.
My Mom & aunt were some of Ames' first employees and my first real
full time job was there. The Strand page brought back lots of good memories,
like spending Saturday afternoon there. I remember the beautifully carpeted
floors and decor. Nice to see something being planned for the Flat Iron
building. Keep up the good work!

Great site - my father, Joe Libuda, grew up on Everett St. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly last November. Our family decided, instead of burying him at Oak Ridge cemetary, that we would sprinkle his ashes up on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, as this is where he spent most of his free time vacationing and fishing. We have 2 plots available at Oak Ridge, pls email if interested. Thanks.

Hi Dick: I've told you how much I enjoy checking your page for frequent
updates, but wanted to tell everyone else who reads your Guestbook what
a great job I think you are doing. We'll keep trying to find more historical

I was born in Fitchburg but raised in Southbridge attending Charlton
St grammar school graduating from Mary E. Wells in 1960. I wast the August
reunion and enjoyed it very much. I am very interested in Southbridge history
and am happy that today's technology gives everyone a chance to "look and
say". Keep up the good work.

town monuments. So glad to be able to get this information. The pictures
also came out great.

Rocket Man as we refer to him (Dick Whitney) has done a great job setting
up this website - not only for his family but on the AO History. I encourage
anyone with AO-related stories to share with others to do so as it makes
for good reading & good memories. AO was such a big part of families
in the past living in Southbridge that it makes it sort of a reunion in
some instances. Great job - keep up the good work. Margo Fontaine

What a wonderful chance for me to see the history and view pictures of my mother's family. My grandfather Franklin Whitney kept wonderful records of so many things throughout his life and with this additional information I feel that I have gotten to know a part of my own history. Thanks so much for providing this information to us. Jodi

I can get your phone number. My main question is,
what happened to AO?

I am resigning your guest book and not making it a private entry this
time. Dick, you are doing a great job. I especially like seeing the pictures
of Main Street over a period of time. I will put my thinking cap on and
e-mail you some of my recollections of Southbridge while I was growing
up there. Keep up the good work. Thanks .....

Hi Dick, this was great seeing your web page. I worked at AO for 15
years. I went to school with your sister Sue. This just brings back so
many wonderful memories. I now live in Florida but had a chance to attend
the reunion with my sister Pat. She had graduated with the class of 1965.
What a great job the committee did and what a great reunion. Thanks for
sharing your web page.

This is the best!! Being so far from "home" it was great to see the pics of the AO. But I especially like the pics of Sue because I have not seen her in years. I used to watch your cat when you went to Martha's Vineyards every year when you were young. I remember the air raid drills on Litchfield Ave. Sure did bring back a lot of memories.
Great Site....

This is a great web page. The historical information on AO and the history
on DOD is of interest to us all who have been involved with AO. We thank
you for the updates on the deomolition and hopefully you will continue
to follow the construction. I check your web site frequently and pass your
web site address on to many others, particularly the many former AO employees.
We thank you for pictorially documenting these events in AO history.
